There are three movies dropping this weekend that offer a little something for every movie goer. On Friday June 13, “How to Train Your Dragon”, “The Life of Chuck”, and “Materialists” all hit theaters.
“How to Train Your Dragon” is the live action remake of the 2010 animated film. It is the story of a Viking attempting to prove himself to his village. His village is known for fighting dragons, but our main character, Hiccup, finds himself befriending a dragon instead. This is one of my most anticipated movie releases of the year and I can’t wait to see this film on the big screen!
“The Life of Chuck” is an adaptation of a Stephen King short story. This short story was featured in “If It Bleeds” a collection of short stories released in 2020. This story features a unique three act structure that tells the story from end to beginning. I have read the short story, so I don’t want to give too much away but this is not your typical Stephen King story. This story isn’t a horror story. It is a story about life. There are some fantastical elements that make is a Stephen King story, but you don’t have to worry about walking into this one and getting scared. Tom Hiddleston is the lead of this film with other big-name actors, such as Mark Hamil, filling out the rest of the cast.
Materialists is a romantic comedy starring Chris Evans, Pedro Pascal, and Dakota Johnson. Dakota Johnson plays a New York City matchmaker who ends up in a love triangle with Chris Evans and Pedro Pascal’s characters. I don’t know too much about this film because I have intentionally avoided reading about it. I want to go into it with few expectations other than what I’ve gotten from the trailers. I think this has potential to be a great summer movie so hopefully it lives up to that potential!
One of my favorite things about summertime is all of the movies that are released, and we haven’t even scrapped the surface of all the great movies that will be on the big screen this summer. This is one of the first big release weekends featuring more than one major release. I don’t think I’ll be able to catch all three this weekend but hopefully I’m able to see at least one (I’m thinking How to Train Your Dragon).
